Our philosophy

Eating is a need, enjoyment is an art
(Francois de la Rochefoucauld)

More than just a restaurant

Guests at the Orangerie at the Maritim Seehotel Timmendorfer Strand have been enjoying fine dining and exquisite wines for over 30 years. For the excellent quality of his dishes and the creative and harmonious arrangement and excellent presentation in short, for his sheer skill in the arts of culinary pleasure, Lutz Niemann was awarded a Michelin star in1994, and is the Baltic’s star chef. He places great emphasis on craftsmanslike precision the „pure doctrine of cooking” and the use of top-quality regional products. The „Orangerie” is therefore not only a gastronomic beacon and „lighthouse” for quality culinary service at all Maritim Hotels, but also a centre of excellence for training the next generation.

Only the most ambitious chefs succeed, either as part of their training at Maritim or directly afterwards, in occupying one of the much coveted youth places at the Orangerie. Once they achieve this and have fulfilled the demanding tasks, their career will have taken an important step forward. It is no coincidence that the World Young Chef of the year in 2009, following an excellent education at the Maritim Strandhotel Travemünde, learnt the final finishing touches at the „Orangerie”. gourmet restaurant Just as important as the goal of providing our guests with a memorable dining experience is the fact that the „Orangerie” perfectly complements the excellent chef training provided in our hotels.

The restaurant’s relaxed and cheerful atmosphere perfectly matches the fare: immediately on entering, guests are immersed in the exclusive atmosphere of this elegant gourmet restaurant, stylishly decorated in cream, gold and black. Warmly welcomed and impeccably looked after by our sommelier Ralf Broenner and his restaurant team, our guests enjoy the excellent and impressive service of the well trained staff throughout their time with us This service is far from being reserved or stiff our guests’ wishes are paramount and fulfilled with great pleasure. With a wine list of over 600 varieties, the highly expert Ralf Broenner opens up a vibrant and sensual world for connoisseurs and lovers of good wine, recounting diverse and amusing stories and anecdotes about wine and wine-growing along the way.

Despite the deluge of inspiring television food programmes, the reality is that our supermarket shelves contain more and more ready-made products. We lack the time for so many things and sometimes it all seems like just too much like hard work. In the Orangerie, we take as much time as we need to devise memorable menus from high-quality and fresh local produce fulfilling our guests’ desires is never too much trouble. Here we offer an insight into what „good food” and “eating well” really mean: pleasure, conviviality and well-being.

May we take this opportunity to thank all those guests who have remained loyal to the „Orangerie” over the years we look forward to offering them hospitality on many more occasions and of course to welcoming all those who wish to get to know the „Orangerie” for the first time.
